Entry: How do text features help you read a book?

Continue Literature Text Scavenger Hunt (understanding text features) -- look for text patterns in typography, color, and symbols.

Review: types of text, sidebars, pull boxes
Continue: typography, color, symbols and icons---- find, share, discuss

Tuesday 10/7
Entry: Look at the top and bottom of 50 consecutive pages. These are called the header and footer. What do you notice? Does the content change? What purpose do they serve?

Discuss headers and footers (number 8 on hunt).

Entry/Apply: Explain how you take notes in social studies.

Practice taking notes. Time self. How long do you need to study to learn?

Friday: 10/10 Tuesday 10/14
Entry: Read in your new book. Be prepared to write a response to "I learned that..." If you are reading nonfiction -- be specific about what you learned. If you are reading a novel, write about the characters, setting, problem.
